Rockhounds, What a day!
Today reminded me why this club continues to thrive—not because of rocks (though we certainly found and admired plenty of those), but because of the people who show up, time and time again, to share in the adventure.
From the moment we left Bakersfield and watched the mountains give way to the coast, it felt like the universe had ordered us the perfect day. The Pacific greeted us with her finest shades of blue—the ocean and sky seemingly competing with one another for our attention. We filled our lungs with fresh ocean air, grounded ourselves in the cool saltwater spa that is our big and beautiful Pacific, and spent the day in the company of the best Rockhounds this side of the Mississippi.
A special thank you goes to Bernie, who once again did not let us down as our fearless Field Scout. Your dedication to finding and organizing these adventures is deeply appreciated.
Whether it's desert trails, creek beds, or the California coastline, you always seem to lead us somewhere worth remembering.
And can we talk about that tailgate potluck? Absolutely rad. Sandwiches, snacks, chips, watermelon, and enough treats to keep a small army of rockhounds fueled and smiling. There's something magical about standing around the back of a pickup truck with friends, sharing stories and food under the California sun.
Of course, no SJVLS adventure would be complete without a little extra treasure.
Our day culminated with a visit to the man, the myth, the legend—Wes—who welcomed us with unbeatable deals and specimens that undoubtedly elevated more than a few collections to another level.
I suspect many of us returned home with lighter wallets, fuller hearts, and shelves that will never quite look the same again.
Thank you to everyone who attended, contributed, brought food, offered rides, and helped make this field trip such a memorable experience.
Days like today are the reason organizations like ours endure. They remind us that the hobby isn't just about what we collect—it's about the memories we make while collecting it.
I've attached a collection of photos from today's adventure. If you have additional pictures you'd like included in the club archives or newsletter, please feel free to send them my way, or add them directly to the album.

Until our next adventure—
May your pockets always have room for one more rock, your specimens remain unbroken, and your horizons continue to expand.

“Let the waves wash away your worries.”

Hello Beautiful Lapidary Family,
Sometimes a message arrives so sincerely and so clearly that the best thing you can do is pass it along.
Director Gerald Capps recently shared the following Memorial Day reflection, and I felt it deserved to be shared with our entire club family.
🇺🇸 Memorial Day Message 🇺🇸
Today is more than the unofficial start of summer, more than backyard gatherings and waving flags in the warm California breeze.
Today is about remembrance.
It is about the young soldier who never made it home. The parent whose chair remained empty. The friend whose laughter became a memory. The countless heroes who traded their tomorrows so we could live ours freely.
In the lapidary world, we know that pressure creates strength, time reveals beauty, and even the roughest stone can carry extraordinary brilliance within it. Our nation was shaped the same way through sacrifice, resilience, and courage.
This Memorial Day, we invite every member of the San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society to do something meaningful:
✨️Visit a memorial.
🇺🇸Thank a veteran.
✨️Place a flag.
🇺🇸Share a story.
✨️Teach a child why today matters.
🇺🇸Keep the memory alive.
Because freedom is not something we inherited by accident. It was protected by ordinary people who answered an extraordinary call.
May we honor them not only with words, but through how we live, how we serve others, and how we come together as a community.
From our club family to yours, we wish you a reflective, proud, and meaningful Memorial Day.
❤️🤍💙
🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thank you Gerald.
And to that, I add a toast:
Here’s to our loved ones—
the ones who remain with us in memory, in spirit, and in the stories we continue to tell.
May they shine brighter in our hearts than any stone ever could.
Sincerely,
Cristian Baltazar
President, SJVLS

Hello SJVLS Family,
Today, beneath wide blue skies and the quiet majesty of mountains, as streams carry fresh waters through fields bursting with wildflowers and butterflies drift on the breeze, we are reminded that there is magic in the air.
Easter marks a sacred moment — a reflection on the life, sacrifice, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Through Him, we are shown the depth of love, the power of grace, and the promise that from even the darkest places, new life will rise.
It is a day of renewal.
A turning of the page.
A beginning again.
Much like we wander the earth in search of hidden treasures — stones shaped by time, pressure, and unseen forces — today invites us to slow down and recognize the beauty all around us. To walk alongside those we love, to gather moments like we gather gems, and to honor the quiet wonder woven into this world.
Let this be a day of presence.
Of gratitude.
Of soft light returning.
A new chapter.
A new spring.
Waters of renewal flowing forward.
May your day be filled with peace, joy, and the gentle reminder that something beautiful is always becoming.
With warmth and reverence,
Cristian Baltazar
